EAST LANSING - Construction on the new Costco Wholesale Warehouse has begun. The new superstore will be located on the corner of Park Lake Road and Saginaw Highway and is the first Costco in Mid-Michigan.

The 65 acre property will include a 156,170 square foot retail space, an attached tire center, a freestanding fueling facility and 2 additional lots for future development.

Road work has began at the location causing a temporary road closing of Park Lake Road between Saginaw Highway and Haslett Road. According to Derek Perry, Meridian Township's Assistant Township Manager/Director of Public Works & Engineering, the roads around the site will be closed periodically during the 7 month construction period.

"They're going to raise the site by 7 feet total," said Meridian Township's Senior Planner, Peter Menser. "This required a lot of engineering where they bring in fill dirt and they try to make it stable so when it's built it just doesn't sink."

The Costco is still in the early stages of construction but is scheduled to open on Black Friday, November 24, 2017.

"Once they're up and going it is about 120 days, boom, they're done," said Menser.
