Hundred Club Honors Local Heroes

LANSING - Eaton County Deputy Andrew Jenkins ran into a burning building to save a family of three all on his own, Captain Kenneth Van Hall of Delta Township Fire Department pioneered a life and fire training facility to help improve the work of new and old firemen. These are just a couple of the heroic public safety personnel honored at the Hundred Clubs annual banquet.

"Tonight we honor the men and women who put their lives on the line to keep our community safe," said President of Hundred Club and Ingham County Sheriff Scott Wiggelsworth.

The Hundred Club recognizes fire, police and first responders who show excellence in professionalism or heroism. Peers nominate who they think is deserving and the Hundred Club's nominee committee chooses a winner.

The Hundred Club also honors public safety personnel who died in the line of duty.

"Thirteen years ago today we had a duty death Chief Rick Wilbur from the Eaton Rapids Township Department," said Suzy Carter Administrator for the Hundred Club. "I think it is great that we’re all together tonight and we can remember chief as well as the other fallen officers."

The Hundred Club gave out over ten awards. " The award is not about me, it is an honor to be nominated by my peers," said Captain Kenneth Van Hall.

The Hundred Club gives millions of dollars to support families who have lost loved ones in the line of duty.

"Within 48 hours we provide immediate response to families who lose a spouse or a father so they don't have to have a financial burden or worry about funeral cost," said Carter.

When the club was first formed it mainly focused on financial support, now there are annual dinners and continued support.
