Meridian Historical Village Holds Spring Docent Meeting and Luncheon

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township's Historical village would not be what it is today without the historians who dedicate their time volunteering as docents. These people come together to keep this small piece of history alive in the township.

On March 23rd the docents held their spring meeting, where a presentation on Michigan's Statehood and "why it took so long to become a state," was held by Director Jane Rose. Members said this presentation was helpful, because knowing the larger context of the entire statehood completes the bigger picture of how the village came to be.

In addition, during the meeting the volunteers discussed upcoming events for the spring season, these include:Adult Day Camp on April 29th, Be a Tourist in your Town on June 3rd and Celebrate Meridian on July 1st.

Following, the docents made their way to the Barnes House for a social luncheon. Rose said todays meeting is a token of appreciation for the docents and a chance to get all volunteers under one roof.

"When you get all docents together, they learn from each other," Rose said. "Everyone has a gem to offer. It's all about the camaraderie."
