Hamilton Road Development Project

Hamilton Road Development Project

UPDATE: OKEMOS - William White is the owner of White Brothers Music and he repairs instruments. His love of music started young when he started playing violin to almost all kinds of instruments. "How can you own a repair shop if you don't know how to play one?" says White as he laughs.

After repairing instruments for about 40 years, he has a new goal in his life. He currently owns 3 properties including his repairing shop as well as Travelers Club Restaurant and he wants to build a new community by demolishing most of his properties.

He proposed to build apartments and a building for arts and culture to enhance the quality of life in the Township.

This 10 million dollar project will be located on Hamilton Square and it is intended to become a landmark for the community. If his plan passes, they will demolish the buildings on the corner of Hamillton and Okemos Roads except for the Travelers Club Restaurant which maintains Township history.

Just a block away from White's project is where the second possible development may occur. The second applicant refused to speak about his plan because nothing is established yet, but he gave a presentation about his design at the last Downtown Development Authority meeting.

Meridian Township Supervisor, Susan Mcgillicuddy got to see his presentation and she said most people at the meeting liked the modern looking design. The real problem? Money. She said funding is the most important aspect when applicants want to create an attractive site for the community. As for now, both applicants are seeking for funding to move their projects forward.

ORIGINAL STORY: OKEMOS - Two possible projects regarding Hamilton Road Development remain questionable as both of the owners still look for major funding.
