Resident Fills Backpacks to Help Kids
Get Ready for School

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - With the end of July nearing, back to school sales are beginning. An Okemos resident is continuing her tradition of filling backpacks for children at St. Vincent in Lansing.

"I try to make sure each of the kids get six spiral notebooks, and then I make sure they they get pencils, pens, big erasers, little erasers with the tops, pencil sharpeners, glue sticks, rulers. I just try to make sure that they start off their year with the good school supplies they need," said Marilyn Britten an Okemos resident.

Britten has been preparing these backpacks for about seven years.

Each year she starts shopping when the sales for back to school begin. She fills ten backpacks for kids at St. Vincent's ever year.

Britten also says that she hopes others will consider doing this since it's an easy project.
