Rain Garden

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Hidden River Rain Garden located in the center of the roundabout at the intersection of Park Lake Road and Burcham Drive is expected to be completed this fall.

The project began in 2014 when a local resident had a vision to make the roundabout a more visually pleasing place.

Since then the garden has came to life by the help of landscape architects, horticulturists, and many volunteers.

Leroy Harvey, Recycling and Energy Coordinator at Meridian Township, said, "Well the initial thing was to just again create a vision, what do we want to do that’s affordable and that’s doable and makes sense for that particular plot of land."

The designers had to keep in mind that in addition to making the area look nice, they also had to find plants that wouldn’t attract deer, could withstand large amounts of water and salt, and also wouldn’t grow too high in order to prevent obstructing driver's vision.
