Holt Sweeps Okemos in Doubleheader for
Alzheimer's Awareness

OKEMOS - The Okemos varsity softball team faced off against Holt on a doubleheader dedicate to Alzheimer's awareness.

Holt swept the doubleheader, 13-1 and 10-1, on an 80-degree, sunny day.

"The things I liked was how explosive we came out with our hitting. We had some great base running, we took extra bases and had a delayed steal early on. So those things were good," Holt head coach Kim Reichard said. "There's not much I didn't really like, other than it took Bri a little bit to get going with her pitching, because we didn't get a full warmup in, but other than that there wash't anything I didn't like."

The first game was a one-sided game, ending in the fifth inning.

After a short break, the Chiefs geared up for a rematch against the Rams.

"Well we gotta come in to this game right now and play just as hard. This is a good hitting team and a good ball club, so we gotta just play our game," Reichard said.

Okemos starts off strong, keeping its bases empty at the top of the first and scoring their first, and only, run at the bottom of the first.

The game was lead by the Chiefs until the top of the third, when Holt got its first, second and third runs.

Okemos' pitcher kept the strikes and out coming, but the fourth and fifth inning proved brutal to the Chiefs.

The Rams lead 9-1 at the bottom of the fifth.

Okemos had one last chance to score at the top of the sixth, but the outs came before they could reach home.

The bottom of the sixth was an ultimatum for the Rams.

One more run and that would be a sweep.

Holt get one more girl home and take home the win, 10-1.

"Chiefs get mercied both games vs holt," the Okemos Softball Twitter page tweeted. "Too many errors and inconsistent play makes for a rough night."

Both teams sported camp jerseys for the annual fundraiser for the Alzheimer's Association.

Capital Honda, Kroger, Meijer and Tom's Food Center sponsored the event.

Parents and staff sold purple shirts and snacks, and a raffle was held to see who would win half of the money donated at the game.

This was the sixth annual Softball Fundraiser for Alzheimer's Awareness.

The amount of money raised has not yet been released.
