Okemos Girls Basketball Rallies Back for
the Win Against Jackson, 39-38

OKEMOS - With over six minutes to go in the second quarter Jackson's Cyerra Johnson cuts a pass from Okemos' Bergin Robinson and drives the ball to the basket increasing the Vikings lead to 12-5.

Okemos tries to bounce back on the next run but misses and a rebound by the Vikings gives Nina McAlvey an opportunity to increase the lead to 15-5 after she nails a three right off the dribble.

With six minutes to go a pass from Johnson inside to Jada Moorehead for the layup increases the Vikings' run 7-0 and they take a 17-5 lead.

Still in the second quarter, the Chiefs answer back with a little over five minutes to go when Robinson catches a pass in the deep right corner and drains a three to cut the lead to 17-8.

The score was 23-14 going into halftime after both teams continued to rally back and forth trying to generate offense.

In the third quarter the Chiefs cut the Vikings lead to one point with five minutes to play, 23-22.

The Vikings answer back with a layup from Johnson pushing their lead to 25-22.

The next possession, Laya Hartman dribbles between two defenders and takes it all the way to the basket to put the Chiefs back within a point of the Vikings, 24-25.

Johnson answers back again with a little under four minutes to go knocking down a three pointer, Vikings lead 24-28.

The Chiefs are not to be counted out just yet, they go on a 5-0 run to take the lead after a free throw, pull-up jumper by Skylar Westfall and wide-open layup by Hartman, the Chiefs lead 29-28.

The Vikings answer back in the next possession with a put back basket by Amaya Taylor. Vikings lead 30-29.

Okemos rallies back to take their biggest lead of the game in the fourth quarter with five minutes left after they go on a 6-0 run.

With a little over two minutes to go the Chiefs and Vikings are all tied up at 37 after a pull-up jumper by Jacksons' Lauren Perdue.

The Vikings take a one point lead with 18 seconds left in the contest after a free throw by Makayla Davis, the score is 38-37.

A couple missed free throws by the Vikings and the Chiefs have possession of the last play. Hartman gets the inbound pass dribbles to the top right wing, finds Westfall in the bottom of the left block who pulls up a jumper and secures the win for Okemos. The Chiefs win 39-38.

The one point victory is the same story the two teams have been reading just on a different night. "When we played Jackson the first time, we made a big comeback and ended up winning by one on shot with five seconds left so this game was very similar to that except for we had a little lead and gave it up and then came back and made the great pass and shot there at the end," says Okemos Head Coach Tyler Hursey.
