Variance Request Approved for Meridian Township Residents at Zoning Board of Appeals Meeting

Variance Request Approved for Meridian
Township Residents at Zoning Board of
Appeals Meeting

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township resident's Christian and Gloria Nwobu requested a variance to allow improvements on their house exceeding 50 percents of the assessed value of the residence.

Christian and his wife Gloria attended the Zoning Board of Appeals meeting on October 14 to see if the Board would grant their request and also adding comments about their situation saying, "One of the things I wanted to add is um, I wasn't aware initially when we started the repair that we should not exceed a such amount. But when we began, we began to notice a lot of things that came in between."

The Board was initially going to leave the amount to exceed open ended until repairs were finished, however they decided they couldn't support the variance request because if they made an exception for this family they would have to do the same for other families. As a end result, the Board agreed on $20,000 cap for the home's improvements.

Zoning Board of Appeals member Kenneth Lane made a motion for the repair amount and it was seconded by Carol Ohlrogge. The Board voted and approved the variance unanimously.
