Meridian Township Fire Department to be
Honored Before Detroit Tigers Game

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On September 9th, three of Meridian Township’s finest will be stepping onto the field at Comerica Park for the first time. No, it’s not for their talent on the baseball field, or their celebrity status, but instead for something much bigger.

Firefighters from all over the state of Michigan will be recognized at the Detroit Tigers game on Sept. 9 in honor of the 14th anniversary of the Sept. 11 tragedy. Battalion Chief Ken Phinney, Captain Matt Walters, and Fire Inspector Tavis Millerov will be joined by their families to represent Meridian Township on the field.

“I think it’s a great honor to be recognized for the efforts we put in on a day to day basis,” said Phinney. “It’s a tragedy that happened to the fire service and the entire country.”

The event is being put together by the Belfor Construction Company, who has sponsored the Tigers throughout the season.
