Township Police to Receive New Tool to
Help Save Lives

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township Police officers will soon have another life-saving tool in their possession.

As part of their medical first-responder license, officers are now required to carry Narcan, a drug that can reverse the effects of heroine overdose. Lieutenant Greg Frenger says the effects of this antidote are immediate

"Our understanding so far is that, essentially, the person wakes up almost immediately and completely sober from the heroin," Frenger said. "If there are other drugs or alcohol in their system, that may still be affecting the person."

Frenger says as soon as training is complete, the Narcan will be one of the tools Township Police have at their disposal.
