of Paving Newton Road

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - One of the many items on the agenda for Tuesday night's Township Board meeting was a pubic hearing for potential improvements to Newton Road that could include the paving of portions of the road.

Assistant Township Manager and Director of Public Works & Engineering, Derek Perry, gave a presentation on the project that is still in the discussion phase and the public was given a chance for comment as well. Most of the public comments pertained to how the paving of the road, located between East Saginaw Highway and Lake Lansing Road, would affect traffic and speeds in the area.

Other options discussed included widening the lanes of the road to better accommodate vehicles. While most of the project would be paid for by the developers, areas at the North and South end of Newton Road would still need to be paved.

"There will be a significant contribution from the public of Meridian Township," said Perry. "To offset the costs."

This project will be on the agenda for further discussion at the next Township Board meeting on August 18th.
