Changes to Teacher Certification

Changes to Teacher Certification

UPDATE: LANSING - Proposed changes may make it easier for a teacher's certification license to get taken away by administration.

A new rule is proposed by the Michigan Department of Education, MEA, to change teacher certification rules. Michigan superintendent Mike Flanagan does not agree. Flanagan is against revoking a teacher’s license based on poor ratings on annual evaluations.

"Teaching is a very difficult profession and there are many, many aspects to it and you can't put standardized things on teachers and expect them to excel," said Steve Kwasnik, a father of four elementary age kids.

If the MEA passes the proposed change, it will have an impact on teachers, some may even lose their careers.
