LANSING - The Motorcycle Safety Foundation basic rider course at Lansing Community College teaches riders the basic fundamental skills that a well-trained motorcyclists should know.

These skills involve breaking, cornering, swerving, limited space maneuvering, and so on. But are these riders well equipped with motorcycle safety skills?

Ever since the motorcycle helmet law was changed back in 2012, riders haven't been nearly as safe on the roads where they are exposed to potential accidents.

With funding help from the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning, riders who pass the course will receive a new specially designed, high-visibility vests.

MSF rider coach Glen Feldpausch explains, "The purpose of these vests is to make the motorcyclists more conscious."

The back of these vests read "Ride Safe, To Ride Again" surrounded by angel wings, in a unique neon yellow and black design.

"If people see you, chances are they won't do anything to harm you," Feldpausch ensures.

Although these vests allow riders to be a little safer by keeping them more visible, they don't replace the safety in which a helmet provides.
