Township Board Will Let Legal Process Handle Foreclosed Properties

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Meridian Township Board discussed two foreclosed properties during this week's meeting. The locations of the properties were 6201 Lake Drive and a parcel of land on Haslett Road. The Board took no action on either property and instead will let the legal process play out.

The Board was informed by the Ingham County Treasurer, Eric Schertzing that the properties will be auctioned off in a bundle on July 23rd and if not sold then it will be auctioned a second time on September 2nd. If after the second auction it is not claimed then it will be given to the Township for no cost.

"As free as anything in life is," said Schertzing.

If the property is given to the Township, they don't have to deal with any back taxes or demolition costs. There were some ideas being discussed at the meeting as to what to do with the land parcel if it's awarded to the Township.

"A design contest would be interesting, but the road department has a lot of restrictions," said Brett Dreyfus, Meridian Township Clerk.
