Public Hearing Held Before Planning
Commission on New Gas Station at Kroger

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Planning Commission held a public hearing on April 13th regarding a proposed gas station for the Kroger in Meridian Township.

Kroger company proposes to build a gas station with a 265 square foot transaction kiosk and 7 pumps near the crossings of Marsh Road and Newman Road.

The station will locate west of the Kroger grocery store in the Meridian Towne Center.

The main entrance to the station will be from the driveways on Newman road.

A 2006 traffic study shows that around 4500 automobiles passed the part of Newman Road between marsh road and Central Park Drive. Kroger's consultant company estimates there will be nearly 250 additional motor vehicle trips after the station is constructed.

Kroger's representative said they would like to plant landscapes trees on both sides of the station as a condition to get the request approved, as Commissioner Thomas Deits advised.

Chair John Scott-Craig suggested the applicants have clearer and more complete traffic study.
