Environmental Commission Reviews Wetland Use Permit for New Daycare

Environmental
Commission Reviews Wetland Use Permit
for New Daycare

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - On March 28th, the Environmental Commission of Meridian Township visited the site of a potential daycare at 2172 and 2190 Association Drive, Okemos, MI.

The purpose of site visit was to walk through and review a wetland use permit before approval can be given.

The daycare, which will be called the Appletree Learning Center, and will be placed over current wetlands that occupy the area.

The applicant, BBI Holdings, Inc., proposed filling the southern 10,000 or more square feet of the existing wetland and constructing a mitigation wetland adjacent to the current area to make up for an impacts the daycare may cause.

Steve Witty, a representative for BBI, Holdings, Inc was at the April 1st Environmental Commission meeting to speak on behalf of the daycare plans and ways to navigate the wetland.

"Gilden Woods does an extensive study of market areas. This location, actually, was extremely high on their study for needing additional daycare service. With all the businesses, and offices in the area, the study indicated that this is actually an ideal location for a daycare facility," says Witty.

The area of wetland that will be impacted by the daycare's construction is .25 acres of the current .28.

Because BBI Solutions, Inc. was given a nod of approval from the Environmental Commission, their next stop is the Planning Commission to move the process forward.
