Township Board Discusses How to Handle
Sale of Former Central Fire Station
Property

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Township Manager Frank Walsh spoke to the Township Board about the potential sale of the property where the former Central Fire Station and The MARC building located in Downtown Okemos.

The property on 2150 Clinton Street was rezoned recently by both the Township Board and the Planning Commission from Single Family Residential to a Commercial designation or C2.

Manager Walsh suggested the Board take a hands off approach. He said "There would be the selection of an agent which staff would do through a process, obviously any sale would then come back to the township board, that would be the extent of the involvement of the Township."

The Board then discussed whether they would like to be involved in directly picking the business that would move in.

Township Clerk Brett Dreyfus said, "We can promote the property as an excellent redevelopment opportunity, we have resources to put it out there to say here's some of the examples of things we would like. So we can put out suggestions of things we like, doesn't mean we have to be bound by anything."

Manager Walsh mentioned there were already bids on the property, but the Board should set a sales price at which they would like to market it to the public.
