Township Board Moves Forward with 2012
International Fire Code Adoption

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Township's adoption of the 2012 International Fire Code moved on to the next step at the last Township Board meeting.

The International Fire Code is a book of rules and regulations used by fire departments all over the world. The code is written every 3 years, with the next edition coming out in 2015. The township currently operates under the 2006 International Fire Code in order to stay on par with the building code. Meridian Township Fire Inspector Tavis Millerov explains that it is much better for the Township to adopt this code rather than write it’s own.

"It comes down to, why would we want to reinvent the wheel? For us to be able to develop an entire code set like this would take years, if not a decade," Millerov said.

The Township Board will hear the code again at the December 2nd meeting, which is when they will decide whether or not to adopt it.
