Veterans' Day Parade Continues Despite Rain

INGHAM COUNTY - Ingham County celebrated Veterans day with the 7th Annual Ingham County Veterans Day Parade in Mason.

The Ingham County Veterans Parade Committee announced that the Countywide Veterans parade received the VA SITE AWARD. This is the 5th year they have received this award and are one in four who have received it in Michigan.

While it was windy and raining outside that did not stop over 50 people from signing up to partake in the parade.

Mike Ross, Co-Chair of the parade committee said, "Actually we had more people show up this year than what we had last year, but probably part of that helpfully has been thank you its just a little rain and kinda windy and cold. last year we had snow and sleet so that really hurt us."

Historically Veterans Day began as Armistice Day in 1919 to celebrate the anniversary of the end of World War I. It became a national holiday in 1938 and now celebrates all U.S. Veterans.

The Ingham County parade included veterans from WWII to the Iraq war and also featured representations of those who fought in WWI and the Civil War.

Mason school bands were also present at the parade.

Ross hopes for better weather at next years event.
