Citizens' Academy Begins in Meridian Township

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Many may wonder what it takes to be a police officer in Meridian Township. Well thanks to a nine week class some get the chance to find out.

The Meridian Township Citizens' Police Academy began September 11th giving residents the opportunity to learn all about Meridian Township law enforcement.

During the class the students will meet many of the police officers, meet the k-9 unit, and even get the chance to participate in a shooting simulation at Lansing Community College.

Police Chief David Hall said the Citizens' Academy is a way for residents to learn about the police department.

"It's a chance for citizens to get to know their police department. A chance for citizens to not only know the police department, to know what we do and maybe why we do what we do. And we talk about all different areas of law enforcement," he Chief Hall.

The academy meets every Thursday night at 6:30pm for eight more weeks.
