MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - With the Michigan Primary Elections less than a month away, Monday, July 7th is the last day to register to vote in the election. To register to vote, residents can visit a Secretary of State Branch Office, Ingham County Clerk’s Office or the Meridian Township Clerk’s Office. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, a United States citizen, a resident of Michigan and a resident of Meridian Township.

Election Day for the Michigan Primary Election is Tuesday, August 5th. Polls will be
open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Meridian Township Clerk’s Office provides voter information for the upcoming Election. Registered residents may also view a sample ballot by entering their voter information online at www.michigan.gov/vote.

Absentee ballot applications were mailed to qualified residents in June. Ballots will be mailed starting July 2nd to residents who have returned their applications up to that date, and then daily as applications are received.

Residents may request an absentee ballot if they are:
• 60 years of age or older
• Physically unable to attend the polls without the assistance of another
• An appointed precinct worker in a precinct other than the precinct where the resident resides
• Expecting to be absent from the community in which the resident is registered for the entire time the polls are open on Election Day
• Unable to attend the polls because of the tenets of the resident’s religion
• Unable to attend the polls because the resident is confined to jail awaiting arraignment or trial

The Clerk’s Office will be open Saturday, August 2nd from 8:00 a.m to 2:00 p.m to issue absentee ballots; this is also the last day ballots can be mailed to residents. Absentee ballots are available in person through 4:00 p.m., Monday, August 4th. Ballots requested on August 4th must be completed at the Meridian Township Municipal Building and cannot be taken out of the building. All voted ballots must be returned to the Clerk’s Office by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day August 5th.
