EAST LANSING - Michigan State University was one of 16 universities approved for a federal research grant to study the benefits of consolidating police and fire departments.

The $344,000 grant will allow the Criminal Justice College to get a better understanding as to whether consolidation is an effective budget saving move for cities across the country.
