Winter 2014 Preparations

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The harsh winter left area roads a mess, but the Township Board is working on creating a solution for next year.

An ordinance is in the works to help with the removal of parked and stalled vehicles on the road during a snow emergency. This will help with snow removal operations and will help relieve traffic congestion. Chief of Police Dave Hall says the primary goal of this ordinance is to provide a way for the road department to push snow.

"If you have a truck going around a bunch of parked cars in the middle of the road, we're not going to be clearing the roads like we want to and get traffic up and running," said Hall. "It's a hazard, yes it's a hazard. It's less of a hazard because there's not so much traffic."

Parked and stalled vehicles remaining on the roads could face a ticket or towing fee. It's important to keep in mind that everyone will be notified if there is a snow emergency situation.
