Controlled Burns Planned to Improve
Plant Life in Meridian

UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP -

ORIGINAL STORY: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Meridian Township Officials have planned ecological controlled burns on Township-owed property within next several weeks.

Two companies, David Borneman LLC and Plantwise LLC, have been hired to conduct these burns at the Davis Foster Land Preserve and Ingham Counry's Lake Lansing Park North.

"The one of the biggest reason for that is to control the basic plant species that been planted in the pass and invaded to a natural communities and they might be people's landscape, and they moved into the natural communities," said Nick Sanchez, Meridian Township Assistant Parks Naturalist.

Burn breaks will be set up before the burning to help control the fire. The burns will be conducted in a way to minimize the amount of smoke produced.

Neighbors of the properties that will be burned will receive notification by mail.

These burns are weather dependent and are expected to take place within the next several weeks between noon and 7pm.
