"Meridius Prime" Roundabout Sculpture Installed

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - A new sculpture was installed this past weekend in Meridian Township.

The sculpture, which is named "Meridius Prime," was installed at the roundabout located at Marsh and Hamilton Road.

The sculpture is roughly eight feet wide and fourteen feet tall, and the installation took a little over two hours to complete.

Tim Higgins, the artist of the sculpture, was selected out of the nine proposals submitted.

"It's what they call a place-making sculpture. Its supposed to help enhance the area and to encourage economic growth and just make it a better place to live," said Higgins.

While Higgins did a majority of the designing himself, Katren Industries in St. John's Michigan did the laser cutting and welding for the sculpture.

The sculpture is funded by a $10,000 grant from the Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP) the Township received last year.
