UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - During the township board meeting April 1st, the trustees unanimously to admen the recently approved Consumers Energy Streetlight Contract in order to establish additional lighting to Okemos Road.

Over eighty-eight streetlights will be placed along Okemos Road with two lights replacing damaged lamps.

Each streetlight will contain an LED blub that will only use eighty-six watts of electricity.

ORIGINAL STORY: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The streets of Meridian will continue to shine as the Township Board voted to maintain a relationship with Consumers Energy as the township's provider for streetlights.

During the discussion, questions were raised as to if less expensive energy providers were available to substitute for the proposed Consumers Energy streetlight contract.

Township Manager Frank Walsh responded "...there are some people went out and bought natural gas separate on their own from another provider and they are paying three and a half times the current rate by the natural providers."
