Temporary Fire Station Construction Begins

Temporary Fire Station Construction
Begins

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Construction on the temporary fire station is well underway inside the Meridian Service Center building off Okemos Road.

The framing for temporary living quarters for firefighters was recently installed as well as electrical. Drywall was scheduled to begin at the end of last week.

Meridian Township Superintendent of Facilities, Dennis Antone said he hopes the remodel will make for a better Service Center in the long-run.

"Well hopefully we can get the main fire station built, so we can turn this into permanent offices which would help the crowding in the Service Center offices," said Antone.

The building plans will also allow for the living quarter area to remain as a place to cook and eat as well.

The Service Center was announced as the temporary fire station location after the closing of the Central Fire Station earlier this year. The building will also continue to be used by other Meridian Township departments.
