Deer Harvest Results So Far in
Meridian Township

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - This season, Meridian Township has harvested 104 deer. There are still a few more weeks until the close of the 2013 Managed Deer Harvest on Jan. 1, so the number is expected to continue to rise.

"Our leader has 11 deer harvested so we've got some guys that are really dedicated so we are looking forward to what comes in over the next month," said Nicholas Sanchez, Meridian Township's Assistant Park Naturalist.

Now, of those 11 deer from one hunter, he only keeps one of them. The first deer must be donated to the food bank and the hunter can keep the second. Every deer after that is donated. This season, more than 500 pounds of venison has been donated to a local food bank.

Nicolas Sanchez said that there are some ideas about changes regarding next year's season but nothing is set in stone. The Parks and Recreation Department is looking for feedback from the hunters and anyone else who has some ideas to throw in, if interested, contact Jane Greenway, the Parks and Land Management Coordinator at 517-853-4600
