A Request to Rezone Properties on Haslett Road will be Introduced at the Next Township Board Meeting

A Request to Rezone Properties on
Haslett Road will be Introduced at
the Next Township Board Meeting

HASLETT - In October, the Meridian Township Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend rezoning of 8 properties located on Haslett Road.

The members want to rezone these properties from commercial to residential.

The Planning Commission recommended this because all 8 properties are used by residents.

At the last Township Board meeting, the board members expressed their support for this rezoning request.

"Basically, this is I think correcting sort of a 50-year-old mistake so I think it's a good thing that we do this down zoning and we recently did the same thing to a house on Babbitt Street that had been there for 70 years or something," said Meridian Township Trustee Veenstra.

Trustee Scales as well as several other board members were interested in acting on this right away, however, Community Planning and Development Director, Mark Kieselbach, said that the board would have to introduce this process and publish it before any actions can be made.

The board decided to wait and introduce this request at the next meeting on December 10th.
