Senator Whitmer Expresses her
Opinion of the Federal Balanced
Budget Resolution

LANSING - Following the senate passage of a resolution to require a balanced budget, Senator Whitmer gave her opinion regarding this resolution.

Senator Whitmer stated that this resolution would "inhibit the ability to make long-term investments as a nation."

Communications Director, Robert McCann said, like everyone else, Senator Whitmer agrees that it would be better to have a federal balanced budget. What Whitmer has an issue with is artificially creating a constitutional amendment saying that the nation's budget must be balanced.

"You know, the real issue when it comes to a balanced budget is how do we get there? And there are ways of proactively working to lower our costs while stabilizing our revenue as a nation or there are ways in which are currently being proposed right here in Michigan to just artificially create a spending limit and that could actually have catastrophic results for our nation's economy," McCann added.
