"It's A Breast Thing"

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Two local business owners have taken it upon themselves to impact lives here in Ingham County.

Sue Wyman and Barb Mckessy started the "It's A Breast Thing" calendar about six years ago and all of their profits go towards out-of-pocket expenses for breast cancer survivors. The event involves a bra decorating contest. The top 12 bras are featured in a calendar where they are modeled by breast cancer survivors. Barb tears up as she thinks about the woman that their calendars have influenced.

"These lades go through a lot in their treatment and by the time they come and have this day with us, a lot of the comments that I get from them is that since all of their treatments and all of the things that they've gone through, that this is the first time they have felt like a woman again," said McKessy.

The models get their hair and makeup done, massages and quality time with other woman who have gone through similar situations. Sue Wyman said they have helped 26 survivors so far and new applications are coming in all the time. They are hoping to raise more than $36,000 this year, and even more each year to come.
