Take a Hike: Harris Nature Center's
Autumn Walk

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - This fall, Harris Nature Center told people to take a hike. Literally.

Viewing leaves, trees, and more, nature was the focus of the walk that took place on October 13th.

"The Autumn Walk is just for the general public," said Allison Goodman, assistant naturalist at Harris Nature Center. "Actually, we do one each season because there's so many things changing. Each time of the year the trees and the plants are doing different things each season, and the fall is an amazing time to come out."

"The nature walks are always interesting," said Joyce Benvenuto, resident of Haslett. "There's always a point of interest, something I didn't know before that I learn every time I come out here."

"We try to educate the general public on what we have out here at Harris Nature Center and what we have out in Michigan in general," said Goodman. "A lot of times we don't know what's going on right in our own backyard."

"What do I love about the Nature Center?" said Benvenuto. "The nature to start, but unspoiled woods, just unspoiled woods, unspoiled river, you know, just nature left to be nature."

"Just getting them out to the Nature Center to see it, then they get interested, and they, you know, realize there's more programs, campfires, and walks that they can go on," said Goodman. "The goal is to just kind of wander in the woods and see what we see."
