Sylvan Glen Drain Project

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Ember Oaks subdivision is having its draining system improved. Some of the storm sewers for Ember Oaks were not put in when the subdivision was created nearly a decade ago. The outlet for water in this subdivision runs under the railroad tracks by Sylvan Glen Road and on to the Red Cedar River. Currently, water is damaging the soil around ember oaks due to a lack of proper draining.

"The excessive amount of water created by the runoff of the subdivision eroded Meridian Township's land preservation parcel that was where this water had traversed across," said Ingham County Drain Commissioner Patrick Lindemann.

An artificial stream is now being created just south of the railroad tracks. It should be complete in about two weeks. The stream is expected to function for more than 150 years and solve the erosion problem.
