Lack of Fireworks Ordinance Upsets
Residents

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Some residents were upset during the 4th of July weekend when fireworks were being set off into the early hours of the night.

The Township Board had discussed a set time for folks to cease lighting fireworks, but the discussion was tabled before the holiday, preventing the board from reaching a resolution.

Residents such as Ann Alchin of Haslett said fireworks were being set off much too late for her taste.

"I really don't think we need to have fireworks going till 1 o'clock in the morning," Alchin said. "I don't know what happened to your discussion of 10 o'clock or 11 o'clock, but I think 11 o'clock is late enough."

The Fireworks Ordinance presented to the Board was passed as amended 6 to 1.
