Playground Program Gives Meridian Kids a Place to Play

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - For 20 years now, the Summer Playground Program has been giving kids in the Meridian area a place to hang out over the Summer.

"It's a great program," Greg Grothous, Meridian Township Parks & Recreation Specialist said. "It gives the kids somewhere to go over the Summer, it gives them something to do. The program itself is free, so there's no cost to the parents, outside of when we take some field trips, but even that cost is very minimal."

Grothous, who's in his 8th year with the program, says there's rarely a dull day at Snell Towar Recreation Center.

"It goes by quick, let's put it that way," Grothous said. "You know, we've got the kids outside, moving, you know, playing dodge ball, we use the soft gator balls, basketball, tag, any variety of activities."

Grothous added the registration process to join the program was simple.

"All you gotta do is, first time you bring your child to the program, we just have a form that we need you to fill out," Grothous said. "Fill that out, turn it back in to us, and then you're good to go."
