MSU Race for the Place

UPDATE: EAST LANSING, MI - Residents gathered from all over the Greater Lansing area to show their support for women who have experienced relationship violence and stalking. The event had activities for participants of all ages, including a kid's one mile fun run, a run with the Spartans, and a 100 yard dash.

All the proceed raised go towards the MSU Safe Place and their mission to provide emergency shelter, counseling, support groups, safety planning, and education on violence and stalking.

Race for the Place had dozens of different sponsors and volunteers including Ephraim Clark, member of the National Pan-Hellic Council.

"When we heard about this event we thought it would be a good look for our fraternity to get involved in. We look to do community service in the area and this was a great opportunity to support this cause," said Clark.

Artwork was also incorporated in this event. Inside the Jension Field House "The Clothesline Project" was hung around the walls. The artwork was a demonstration of the voices of women who have been victims of violence.

"It is very important to understand you always have a place to go. I would give my last dime to supporting this place," said Teresa Sweet, a participate in the race.
