CATA's Clean Commute Options Program
and 5K Aims to Improve Air Quality

UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - May through September, because of higher temperatures and increased exposure to the outdoors, is deemed ozone action season. To compensate for potential poor air quality, the Capitol Area Transportation Authority, also called CATA, is hosting a 5k to raise awareness about ozone action season, and to promote the Clean Commute Options program.

The program is designed to encourage the tri-county area to make greener choices when it comes to their daily commutes. Some of these options are outlined by CATA and include things like not topping off your gas tank and fueling up after 5 p.m. Additionally, CATA intends to make all of their future vehicle purchases, hybrids.

The CATA clean commute 5k will be held at Hawk Island Park in Lansing on Saturday, April 27th. The event includes a free 1-mile Multimodal Excursion and Clean Air Fair. The Multimodal Excursion can be completed with the use of bicycles, scooters, unicycles, or even pogo-sticks. All proceeds from the event will benefit Mid-Michigan Asthma Coalition.
