EAST LANSING - At 17 years-old Adam Nevells accomplished more than most. While most students his age have trouble choosing a hobby, Adam devoted himself wholeheartedly to several activities.
Adam played on the Water Polo Team, Wrestling Team, was a member of the marching band, Boy Scout (on his way to becoming an Eagle Scout), and through all of this still managed to maintain a 3.7 GPA and a 31 on the ACT.
On September 4th, 2009 Adam passed away in an car accident. Through his parents’ heartbreak and pain they found a silver lining in continuing Adam’s legacy. The Nevells started a memorial fund for Adam, partnered with the Capital Region Foundation.
The Adam D. Nevells fund was established from Adam’s life insurance and continues to grow through donations from the community he loved so dearly. The fund maintains an annual giving program that funds activities that Adam devoted most of his life to.
This year the family teamed up with Buffalo Wild Wings and held a fundraiser that allowed a portion of each participants check to go towards Adam’s fund.
When asked about him and his wife’s extraordinary service Adam’s father, Mike Nevells, said “I don’t think this is anything extraordinary on our part. What is extraordinary is our community. Elaine and I could not have survived this tragedy if it was not for the countless number of close friends, families, and all of Adam’s friends. This event is just one shining example of that.”
The Buffalo Wild Wings Fundraiser is just one of the many that will take place this year including the Third Annual Golf Outing, A Memorial Wrestling Match hosted by the Okemos Wrestling Team, and an Alumni Water Polo Match. If you would like to contribute to the preservation you can go to Buffalo Wild Wings on Grand River and place a donation in the bucket or go to www.crcfoundation.org.
