The Deer Management Plan more than
doubled in
success

UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - This is the second year the township has implemented its' Deer Management Plan. Jane Greenway, Land Management Coordinator, says that this years' harvest brought in 89 deer compared to last years' 43.

The project was first created as a response to the numerous reports of car accidents, damaged personal property, and concern with public health. The projected began with 8 properties in 2011 and has expanded into 18 in 2012.

According to Greenway, hunters said the park visitors and residents had nothing but positive feedback and thanks to give for their service. 1,126 pounds of venison was donated to the Food Bank through this program. "It is estimated that one pound of venison equals five meals; therefore, 5,630 meals were donated through the deer management program," said Greenway.

"I am not sure if there will be another harvest in 2013 but I know the hunters would definitely be on board for a third season," said Greenway.
