C&H Closes

C&H Closes

UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The independent grocer, C&H Marketplace which opened in May 2011, will be closing it's doors. The store is located in the Carriage Hill Shopping Center at Hagadorn and Lake Lansing roads, which was the former location of L&L Food Center.

Part of the reason for C&H closing was the increased competition in grocery, especially from Meijer Inc's newest local branch in Bath Township. The competition cut the sales of C&H by nearly 30 percent. Owner Ray Watha had begun to lay off employees six months prior due to less business. Watha provided a statement stating that the store itself is much too large for an independent grocer to survive. "Maybe a smaller version in the future might do the trick," stated Watha.

No date has been set for when the store will close.
