Safety Seat Check

Safety Seat Check

UPDATE: MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - Representatives from Safe Kids USA hold events all over the country to promote different safety tips for parents with young children.

In Lansing, at Glenn Buege Buick, people from Sparrow Hospital and Capital Area Safe Kids were out checking car seats for proper installation.

In some cases, if seats were expired or damaged in some way, a replacement seat was available through a grant funded from Farm Bureau Insurance.

However, many of the problems seen during these checks have to do with the installation of the seat.

Coordinator for Capital Area Safe Kids, Mickie Kreft, said "9 out of 10 car seats are installed incorrectly and that is so true. I have been checking car seats for 12 years ad probably in my career, I have only seen 5 seats come in installed totally correct."

A correctly installed child safety seat can reduce fatal injury by 71% for infants and 54% for toddler according to facts provided from safe kids USA. Check their website at safekids.org to find a safety seat check near you.
