Taylor Moton - Athlete of the Year

UPDATE: OKEMOS, MI - When it comes to athletics there is no question that Okemos High School athlete Taylor Moton is one of the best athletes in the Lansing area.

"He's the type of young man you want to coach," said Okemos football coach Paul Palmer. "Get him on the field, get him on the court and he's going to provide for you and do everything that's possible to be successful."

Earning all-state honors in football and boys basketball in one of largest high school divisions, Moton also qualified for the Division 1 state meet in the shot put for track and field.

"At first I didn't think I would be all-state in basketball, but that just ended up happening," said Moton. "I wasn't playing for myself, I was playing because I love the sport."

Although excelling in athletics earns the 6-foot-5 285-pound offensive lineman a lot of recognition, it seems he is recognized for his persona off the court and field in the Okemos community.

"Taylor is a young man of great character, well respected by the faculty, his peers, and the coaching staff," Palmer said. "He's the class A type young man and Okemos is extremely proud of Taylor."

Moton is also proud of his Okemos roots and growing up in the Okemos community. Coach Palmer and Okemos boys basketball coach Dan Stolz had a big influence on his sports career. Moton stated, "the influence of my grandfather" is where his love for sports began.

Moton will be playing football at Western Michigan in the fall.
