Election Reform Bills

UPDATE: LANSING - Voters will still be able to pick up an absentee ballot without a photo ID.

Governor Snyder recently vetoed three bills in an election reform package. One of these bills would of put into law the requirement to check whether you are a US citizen or not on ballot applications. The other bills had to do with absentee ballots.

"Since 2007, people have been asked to present a photo ID to vote in person. And what that law would of done is expand that requirement to people who pick up their ballot at a clerks office," said Fred Woodhams, Spokesman for the Michigan Department of State.

The Michigan Department of State also said that these bills would have added new requirements to increase election integrity. But voters will see more openness and transparency with ballot questions down the road.
