MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - At the Nov. 16 Meridian Township Board meeting, Firefighter Samantha Weber awarded local charity 'It's a Breast Thing' with a check for $300.

The money came from a shirt fundraiser put on by the fire department, where the proceeds went to 'It's a Breast Thing'.

The charity has been established since 2007 and gives $1000 grants to local breast cancer patients along with gift cards to cancer centers for patients.

Weber said the shirt fundraiser came about due to October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

"It's very common in area fire departments to wear some sort of shirt that signifies or raises awareness," Weber said.
