Meridian Township Fire Department Introduces New Paramedic/Firefighters

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, MI - Meridian Township’s Fire Chief Mike Hamel introduced a new part-time paramedic and full-time paramedic/firefighter to the Township Board at their October 5th meeting.

The introduction began with Anne Marie Cavalcante who currently works in Dimondale and came to Meridian Township a few months ago and went through the process and criteria of what the fire department is looking for in a good employee for now and the future. “She’s going to work part-time for us and we’re going to send her to fire training at the end of this month and once she gets through that, our goal is for her to start full time in June,” said Chief Hamel.

Cavalcante thanked the Board and is excited for the opportunity to go to fire academy and work part-time, and hopes to have a full-time position next year after she completes the program.

Chief Hamel also introduced a new full-time paramedic/firefighter Joseph Harrison, who graduated from Dimondale and went through the paramedic program and fire academy at Lansing Community College, but was unable to attend due to a family emergency at the last minute. Chief Hamel stated, “Were really happy to have him onboard and is already fitting in and motivated and what we’re looking as a long term employee.”

Supervisor Ron Styka was also in attendance and said he is looking forward to Cavalcante and Harrison working with Meridian Township.
