Meridian Township Manager Provides Update on Developing Police Incident

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP - The Meridian Township Police responded to a retail theft incident at the 2000 Block of Grand River Avenue, where the suspect had fled the scene.

Officers located and arrested the suspect in a nearby parking lot. A witness filmed the incident and turned over the footage to the Meridian Township Police Department. The Police identified content in the video that raised concern about the manner and use of force during the arrest.

Township Manager Frank Walsh said that this footage was given to the Michigan State Police and the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office. A video will be reviewed, and it will be determined if any criminal charges will be made.

The identified officers have been placed on a paid administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing.

The video of the incident will not be released to the public until the investigation is concluded.
