OKEMOS - For anyone with unwanted electronics, there will be a Regional Electronic Recycling Event happening on Saturday, September 26th. The event will take place at Chippewa Middle School from 9:00 am till 2:00 pm.

“We will be open at our recycling center that day, so if there is something that we don’t take, and you’re not sure, just bring it anyway and we'll direct you,” said LeRoy Harvey, the Environmental Programs Coordinator for Meridian Township.

“All our volunteers will be wearing masks,” said Harvey. “We are also going to be requiring people stay in their vehicle.”

The event encourages those bringing electronics to the event to leave a $20 donation to help pay for recycling costs. The donation can be left in person or online.

“It goes primarily to the electronics recycling which may cost upwards of $5 to $6 thousand if we fill a couple trailers.”

Accepted items are as follows:
-TVs
-Computers
-Monitors
-Printers
-Cords cables
-Phones
-VCRs
-Stereo equipment
-Typewriters

There are also unaccepted items as well:
-Batteries
-Smoke detectors
-Light bulbs
-Plastic vacuum cleaners
-Coffee makers
-Toasters
-Air conditioners
-Other large household appliances

“It’s not just about recycling,” said Harvey. “It’s about building community and doing something positive for the environment, giving people an option that they can do in their community to make a difference.”
