Downtown Okemos Celebration Displays Creativity

OKEMOS, MI - Local businesses located on the corner of Downtown Okemos celebrated with an Art Fair on Friday, August 21st.

The fair went from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm by Sandie’s Tailor, Salon 7 and Spa, Arty Party, Mid Michigan Academy of Martial Arts, Okemos Barber, New Thai Kitchen, and Art Unlimited located at 4692 Okemos Road with amazing artists that teach and work at the studio as well as sell artwork on their own.

The event included business booths, art displays and more while social distancing and masks were required while attending. Art Unlimited is a paint your own pottery, glass fusing, mosaic, and clay studio where people of all ages are welcome to share their creativity.

HOMTV was able to speak with the Anne O' Connor, the owner of Arts Unlimited and said, “The Okemos corner is why I started doing this and it wasn’t just the art fair because people, because every one of these businesses have suffered from the pandemic and they're very established businesses and they all reopened. I just want to have the people of Okemos realize that they have a really great corner of things that are open.”

“This is a positive corner and some of these people have been here for a long time like the barbershop and martial arts academy have been around since 1980. There’s a lot of long term people here. I just want people know that there’s lot of stuff to do down here, and we have a great corner and people should be happy about it,” O’Connor added.

O’Connor has been the owner of Art Unlimited for 14 years and never thought about doing this event and told HOMTV she will do it again next year.

Art Unlimited is open for walk-ins at a limited capacity and are still offering pottery to go.
