Governor Whitmer Announces Improvement in COVID-19 Testing

LANSING, MI - Governor Gretchen Whitmer held a press conference on Monday to announce that Michigan is leading the country in testing.

Governor Whitmer said, "In just two weeks Michigan has gone from four thousand tests a day to fourteen thousand. Our goal is to test 450,000 Michiganders in the month of May." Whitmer's team is watching the data daily to determine when economic sectors can be added. Whitmer said that human behavior will be a factor in the rate of re-engagement.

Whitmer also talked about how the 4.6 billion dollar trust fund puts Michigan in a much stronger position than during the Great Recession.

Governor Whitmer reiterated, "Until there is a vaccine, social distancing is the best tool to prevent spread." Just because you don't feel sick doesn't mean that you are not a virus carrier. You can be tested to find out. To locate a test facility, go to www.mi.gov/coronavirustest.

Governor Whitmer also stated that Michigan's fatality rate is 3rd highest in the nation. 40% COVID-19 deaths are in African American and will continue to be studied.
